Recognizing that cities are the focal point of the increase in drinking water consumption in Central Europe, the project aims to introduce and promote measures for the efficient use of water and its (re)use from non-conventional local water sources, such as rainwater, for public and domestic purposes, in urban areas. By integrating these regions into a circular water management system, the project aims to improve water conservation by reducing pressure on overuse of drinking water, as well as on urban sewage systems, thereby improving environmental quality and resilience to climate change.
As cities strive to become the main drivers of circular water use, the CWC aims to provide local and regional actors and stakeholders with support through a wide variety of training and the creation of supportive regulatory and organizational collaborative frameworks.
A major focus of the project is on the integration of water conservation issues, not only into existing environmental policies and management systems, but also to guide them into all relevant city/regional development strategies and sectoral regulations (e.g. urban planning, construction).
