Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - IPCC
The Intergovernmental Forum on Climate Change is a scientific and intergovernmental body under the auspices of the United Nations. Its task is to assess the state of science related to climate change. It identifies where consensus exists in the scientific community on climate change-related topics and where further research is needed. The IPCC does not conduct its own research.
It was established with the aim of providing decision-makers with regular scientific assessments of climate change, its consequences and potential future risks, as well as proposing adaptation and mitigation options. State of Climate Science Assessment Reports are a key input to international negotiations to combat climate change.
The IPCC was established in 1988 by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
World Climate Research Program (WCRP)
The World Climate Research Program (WCRP) coordinates climate research at the international level. The scientific activities it supports address complex topics that no single country, agency or discipline can tackle alone. WCRP promotes innovation and collaboration by organizing global meetings, workshops and conferences. WCRP-supported research provides climate science that complies with the United Nations Convention on Climate Change, including national commitments under the 2015 Paris Agreement.
WCRP is also engaged in informing decision-makers and promoting scientific education in this field.
