The HUB-IN project - is co-financed from the European Commission's Horizon 2020 program. Its main goal is to promote the urban transformation and renewal of historic urban areas (HUA) through innovation and entrepreneurship, while at the same time preserving the unique cultural identity and heritage of the area. HUB-IN is expected to systematically contribute to reversing the trends of abandonment and neglect of historical heritage by creating innovation hubs (of HUBs). HUB-IN will also have a direct impact on the creation of new sustainable opportunities for local traditional businesses and on the development of new creative skills and jobs.
HUB AND hubs are centers of experimentation in the field of urban innovation and creativity in historic European areas. They are part of an innovative and sustainable ecosystem of cities that respond to critical social challenges and establish a bridge between science - technology and art - culture.
The project is implemented in 8 pilot cities and is focused on co-creation and cooperation between different actors in each HUA and between partner cities. HUB-IN has three main phases:
1. In the first phase, interconnected centers for innovation and entrepreneurship will be developed in all eight European cities with different characteristics according to the local urban renewal plan, their socio-economic characteristics and the dynamics of their innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems. At the city level, each of the eight historic city areas has its own ecosystem and local network: fab labs, innovation centers, universities, cultural centers, local associations, start-ups, citizens and local communities, etc.
2. In the second phase, we will create a network between eight HUAs to build an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship in eight cities, where, for example, a local laboratory from one HUA could share knowledge and innovation with another laboratory or innovations. center from another HUA.
3. In the third phase, we will expand the network of hubs for the renovation of historic urban areas. The resulting methods and tools will be upgraded to a network with at least 20-50 follower sites.
