The aim of the project is to increase the environmental benefits by improving the conservation of pollinators and introducing gradual changes in the present practices in the Mediterranean region. To achieve the goal, the project sets out a series of activities that promote education and the dissemination of knowledge, the implementation of participatory science approaches (citizen science) and improved environmental management:
- Raising public awareness of the decline of wild pollinators and the importance of pollination for the functioning and health of ecosystems and agroecosystems.
- Promoting approaches and behaviors to conserve native wild pollinators.
- Involvement of the public in data collection and greening activities with the aim of contributing to biodiversity and the preservation / restoration of ecosystems.
- Improving general knowledge about 1) native Mediterranean wild pollinators and entomophilous plants; 2) their interactions and 3) non-native invasive species including monitoring the situation through participatory science.
- Promoting green infrastructure, pesticide-free agriculture and pollinator-friendly practices in rural and urban environments involving farmers, agricultural advisors and other interested stakeholders in the management of urban green public spaces.
- Promotion of better management of the environment by providing data to competent authorities and encouraging the preparation of strategies or action plans for pollinators in Member States where they are lacking (IT, GR, ES).
- Creation of a participatory and interactive database on wild pollinators, improving the availability and exchange of environmental information in the Mediterranean region. This information relates to pollinator-plant interactions, providing baseline data for the development of practical conservation measures.
- Improving knowledge on biodiversity in the Mediterranean area: the information collected will contribute to overcoming the knowledge gap on the diversity and status of pollinators in the Mediterranean region.
