SEAVIEWS - Sectorally adaptable virtual early warning system for sea pollution

The goal of the SEAVIEWS project is to promote and improve transnational cooperation to deal with environmental vulnerability, fragmentation and the protection of ecosystem services in the wider area of the Adriatic. The SEAVIEWS project brings together interested stakeholders from the 6th partner countries – Greece, Albania, Croatia, Montenegro, Italy and Slovenia.

The first part of the project concerns the development of a transnational network that will receive, store and analyze sea quality data from a network of smart sensors located at critical points. Individuals will be able to use the application to post observations related to marine pollution in real time. The innovation of this virtual early warning system for the prevention and management of marine pollution from various sources lies in the inclusion of large database analysis tools. HUBs for monitoring sea pollution will also be included in the network - these will be established with the aim of disseminating information and analyzing data and research results among a wider audience. The purpose of this section is to promote people's understanding and sensitivity to sea pollution and their active involvement in the prevention of sea pollution.

The second part is intended to change the macro-regional action plan. With the cooperation of national and regional authorities, the ultimate goal of SEAVIEWS is to improve the protection of the marine environment by using tools such as large databases. As part of the project, a committee will be established that will evaluate and propose measures to improve the state of sea pollution based on a dynamic decision-making process. By achieving the set goals, SEAVIEWS could improve the quality of the Adriatic-Ionian Sea.
