User participation – A set of participatory methods and tools for involving users in innovation processes

Within the project "URBAN INNO - Using the innovation potential of urban ecosystems", the Collection of Participatory Methods and Tools for Smart Urban Innovation was developed to support urban innovation processes in Central European cities. It should serve as a support mechanism for quadruple-helix urban innovation clusters in their cooperation with stakeholders and end users. The project is supported by of the Interreg Central Europe programme and supports the cooperation of partners from eight Central European countries.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Collection of Participatory Methods and Tools for Smart Urban Innovation is a unique tool that will help you involve end users (citizens, consumers) in the process of urban innovation (development of urban development strategies, smart urban solutions, services or technologies). It is designed as a manual that will guide you through the following process:

  • identifying your target groups,
  • animating target groups using new communication channels and technologies (social media),
  • interacting with them in person and/or virtually when co-creating solutions,
  • maintaining a relationship with them after the interactive event.

The toolkit is developed in the form of a publication and a virtual online toolkit. It consists of:

  • Participatory methods described for different scenarios,
  • Tools available to support the implementation of the methods and guidelines for their implementation,
  • A list of qualified facilitators who can help with the use of the methods,
  • It is available in English and the languages of the participating countries (German, Polish, Hungarian, Italian, Slovenian and Croatian).

WHO IS IT FOR?

The toolkit is intended for advanced users, which means you need at least some basic experience with participatory processes (such as participatory workshops). In case you do not have this, you can find a list of experts for moderating and facilitating the participatory process in your language (which will be available at a later stage).
