Since 2020 LCBs have matured and standardised; are funding a broader mix of green projects, while maintaining the financial benefit for councils; drive lasting engagement with a surprisingly diverse investor base. LCBs are an effective, simple, lower cost, attractive and proven way for local authorities to raise funds for projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions and enhancing climate resilience. The initiative is open for Local Authorities committed to launching a LCB, or related municipal climate investment by signing the LCB pledge. In order to achieve this goal in a targeted manner, the Local Climate Bonds Toolkit was published in Nov. 2023 _ a resource for local authority’s members and officers on the steps involved in issuing a LCB. This includes legal frameworks, marketing strategies, and practical advice to ensure successful implementation. By leveraging local investments, councils can fund a wide range of projects such as renewable energy installations, energy efficiency upgrades, and nature-based solutions, contributing significantly to local sustainability goals. Almost 2.000 investors _ among those residents, businesses, national retail investors _ have already been engaged. More than 10 pioneering councils have launched LCBs, mobilising over £8.5 million of private capital for much-needed local environmental and social impact projects. More information:
