BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA – SUSTAINABLE SCHOOL MEALS PROGRAMME AND SCHOOLFOOD4CHANGE INITIATIVE

Bratislava’s Sustainable School Meals Programme is a pioneering initiative that focuses on serving locally sourced, seasonal, and organic food in public schools. The city partners with local farmers and food producers to ensure that school meals are not only nutritious but also support the local food economy. The programme also educates students about sustainable food practices, aiming to shape future generations’ consumption habits.

A number of schools are also part of the Schoolfood4Change initiative, with schools aiming to improve their food culture. This includes promoting food literacy, partnering with farmers and changing school catering to a healthier and more sustainable diet.

Replication Cities must commit to all of the following actions:

  • Attend regular meetings and webinars with partner cities (particularly with the twinned city), and at least one of the study visits.
  • Implement at least one of the three replication actions (i.e. sustainable food procurement, training school cooks, implementing a Whole School Food Approach).

• Develop a Replication Plan outlining how SchoolFood4Change action(s) will be replicated in their city, what activities they have planned, and under which timeline.
